T20 World Cup 2026 Injury List: Full Breakdown of Players Ruled Out and Replacements

T20 World Cup 2026 injury list continues to grow as the tournament unfolds across India and Sri Lanka, with multiple teams forced into last-minute changes due to fitness setbacks. As many as nine of the 20 participating teams have already made replacements, either before the competition began on February 7 or during the early stages of the tournament. The mounting injury concerns have significantly impacted team strategies, including those of defending heavyweights and co-host nations.

Veterans such as Zimbabwe’s Brendan Taylor and Ireland captain Paul Stirling are among the latest players ruled out, adding to a list that includes several high-profile names from Australia, India, Sri Lanka, and other competing nations.

Latest Injury Setbacks in the Tournament

Zimbabwe suffered a blow when Brendan Taylor sustained a right hamstring injury during their opening match against Oman in Colombo on February 9. Following medical evaluation, Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed he would not recover in time to feature again in the competition. Ben Curran has been named as his replacement.

Ireland captain Paul Stirling also exited the tournament after suffering ligament damage to his knee. The injury occurred while taking a catch during Ireland’s 67-run defeat to Australia and worsened when he attempted a quick single while batting in the same match. Sam Topping has been drafted in as cover.

Australia Among the Hardest Hit

Australia have been severely affected by injuries both before and during the tournament. Even before the event began, they lost Pat Cummins (lumbar stress injury) and Josh Hazlewood (hamstring). Ben Dwarshuis replaced Cummins, while Sean Abbott was placed on standby for Hazlewood.

In another setback, captain Mitchell Marsh suffered “testicular bleeding” following a groin injury sustained during training. Steve Smith has been flown in as cover and is expected to replace Marsh in upcoming matches if required.

Co-Hosts India and Sri Lanka Impacted

Co-host India were forced to replace pacer Harshit Rana due to a lateral meniscus knee injury. Mohammed Siraj was brought in as his replacement.

Sri Lanka endured a double setback with Wanindu Hasaranga ruled out due to a left hamstring injury and Eshan Malinga sidelined with a shoulder issue. Dushan Hemantha and Pramod Madushan were named as replacements, respectively.

Other Teams Affected by Injuries

New Zealand lost experienced all-rounder Michael Bracewell to a calf injury, with Cole McConchie stepping in. Adam Milne was also ruled out due to a hamstring issue, prompting Kyle Jamieson’s inclusion.

South Africa had to deal with early tournament absences as Donovan Ferreira (left clavicle) and Tony de Zorzi (hamstring) were ruled out before the competition. Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs replaced them.

Afghanistan’s Naveen-ul-Haq suffered a shoulder injury and was replaced by Allah Ghazanfar. The USA and UAE also made changes, with Jasdeep Singh (shoulder injury) replaced by Ehsan Adil, and Muhammad Zohaib stepping aside due to mental well-being and team welfare concerns, leading to Haider Shah’s inclusion.

Oman listed Hasnain Shah as unavailable, with Aamir Shakeel mentioned, though the replacement status remains unclear.

Italy Captain’s Injury Scare

Tournament debutants Italy faced a scare when captain Wayne Madsen dislocated his shoulder while fielding just four overs into a match. The 42-year-old was taken for immediate medical attention but was later seen celebrating Italy’s historic win over Nepal without visible discomfort.
