Alia Bhatt to Lead and Co-Produce Abhishek Pathak’s Relationship Drama Housewife

Bollywood star Alia Bhatt is set to take on a new role both in front of and behind the camera with the upcoming relationship drama Housewife, directed by Drishyam 2 filmmaker Abhishek Pathak. The film will explore the complexities of a married couple’s life, marking an intriguing addition to Alia’s diverse career.

Alia Bhatt’s Role in Housewife

Alia will portray the titular housewife, anchoring a story focused on marriage and relationships. Actor Rajkummar Rao is reportedly in discussions to play the male lead, and if confirmed, it would be the first collaboration between the two acclaimed actors.

In addition to her acting role, Alia will co-produce the film through her production banner, Eternal Sunshine Productions, in collaboration with Abhishek Pathak’s Panorama Studios. The project is slated to begin filming between August and September 2026, following Pathak’s completion of Drishyam 3.

Upcoming Projects and Career Highlights

Alia’s schedule for the next few years is already shaping up to be busy. She is in talks to star in Maddock Films’ horror-comedy Chamunda for 2027. Her immediate release is the action thriller Alpha, directed by Shiv Rawail, where she will play a commanding officer in an elite all-women combat unit alongside Sharvari Wagh. Part of the YRF Spy Universe, the film also features Bobby Deol. Originally slated for Christmas 2025, Alpha is now expected to release later in 2026.

In addition, Alia will appear with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period romance Love & War. She was last seen in Vasan Bala’s Jigra, co-starring Vedang Raina.
