A 63-year-old passenger was injured on Sunday after a large metal sheet dislodged from the ceiling of an aerobridge and struck him while he was disembarking from a domestic flight arriving from Bengaluru.
The passenger, identified as Deepak Adoni, a US-based professional originally from Telangana, was among the first to exit the aircraft when the incident occurred. According to his account, the panel fell without warning, leaving him disoriented and struggling to maintain balance. Adoni was later transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation, where doctors conducted multiple scans. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon as passengers were exiting an Air India Express flight via an aerobridge. A metal panel estimated to be 7 to 8 feet long and about 2 feet wide reportedly came loose from the false ceiling and fell directly onto Adoni.
He managed to steady himself by holding onto a railing, but soon leaned against the aerobridge wall as he processed what had happened. A fellow passenger, identified as Zainab Sayed, quickly intervened, calling for assistance and staying with him during the initial moments after the impact.
Despite the urgency of the situation, help reportedly arrived after a delay of around 30 minutes. Adoni was then taken by ambulance to Apollo Hospital for medical assessment.

At the hospital, doctors conducted a CT scan and MRI to assess potential injuries. Medical reports indicated “trivial head trauma” along with observations of cervical spine issues, including degenerative changes and disc bulges. Adoni described experiencing worsening symptoms within half an hour of the impact, including dizziness, temporary memory loss, and difficulty speaking. He also reported an inability to stand without assistance and episodes of disorientation.
Doctors advised him to wear a neck brace and prescribed medication to manage pain in the head and neck. Although he was discharged after observation, Adoni has chosen to remain in India temporarily to monitor his condition before deciding on further travel.
