D55 mahurat pooja marked the formal launch of actor Dhanush’s upcoming film, bringing together its lead cast and crew for a traditional ceremony in Chennai on Saturday. The film, tentatively titled D55, is directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and has already generated strong buzz due to its ensemble cast, which includes Sreeleela, Sai Pallavi, and Malayalam superstar Mammootty in a pivotal role. The project is backed by Wunderbar Films and recently went on floors.

Dhanush, Sreeleela and Sai Pallavi attend film launch ceremony
The mahurat pooja was attended by Dhanush, Sreeleela, and Sai Pallavi, who were seen performing rituals together to mark the auspicious beginning of the shoot. Photos from the event showed the trio lighting the ceremonial lamp, smiling alongside director Rajkumar Periasamy and members of the production team.
Music director Sai Abhyankkar was also present at the event, posing with the cast and crew in one of the shared pictures.

Production house Wunderbar Films shared candid moments from the pooja on its official X (formerly Twitter) account. Posting the images, the banner captioned them: “When all smiles led to a powerful start. Candid moments from the #D55 pooja.”
For the ceremony, Dhanush opted for a traditional white shirt and mundu. Sai Pallavi wore a purple saree, while Sreeleela appeared in a light orange churidaar.
Mammootty’s Tamil comeback adds to the buzz
Although Mammootty was not present at the pooja, his involvement in the film has drawn significant attention. D55 marks his return to Tamil cinema after seven years, following his critically acclaimed performance in Peranbu (2019). Earlier, the veteran actor shared his excitement on social media, calling himself “elated and excited” to collaborate with Dhanush and Rajkumar Periasamy.
This film also marks the second collaboration between Dhanush and Sai Pallavi, who previously worked together in Maari 2, directed by Balaji Mohan.

Dhanush was last seen in the Hindi film Tere Ishk Mein, directed by Aanand L Rai and co-starring Kriti Sanon and Prakash Raj. The film, which explores the emotional journey of a man following a painful breakup, is currently streaming on Netflix.
Sreeleela was most recently seen in Parasakthi (2026), a Tamil political action drama directed by Sudha Kongara, featuring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, and Atharvaa. She also has an upcoming untitled project with Kartik Aaryan, directed by Anurag Basu.
Sai Pallavi was last seen in Thandel and is set to appear next in Ramayan, where she plays Sita. The mythological drama stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Raavan and is directed by Nitesh Tiwari. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in November this year.
