Ranbir Kapoor Updates Fans on Animal Sequel: Production Delayed Until 2027

Ranbir Kapoor has confirmed that Animal Park, the much-anticipated sequel to his 2023 blockbuster Animal, will be delayed as director Sandeep Reddy Vanga focuses on his next project.

In a recent interview, the actor revealed that while the sequel is still in the works, it is not yet in production. “The director is currently making another film, Spirit. We should start the sequel in 2027. It’s a bit away,” Ranbir told Deadline.

Details About Animal Park

When asked if he had read the script, Ranbir said that Vanga has only hinted at the direction of the story so far. The filmmaker plans to create the Animal saga in three parts, with the second installment titled Animal Park.

The sequel promises to be an ambitious project, with Ranbir taking on a dual role for the first time. He will portray both the protagonist and antagonist, with the antagonist undergoing plastic surgery to eventually resemble the hero. “We have been sharing ideas since the first film about how he wants to take the story forward. It’s very exciting,” Ranbir said, praising Vanga’s creativity.

The original Animal (2023) was a hyper-violent action drama exploring a complex father-son relationship. Ranbir played Ranvijay Vijay Singh, a man shaped by childhood trauma inflicted by his emotionally distant father, played by Anil Kapoor. The film was a massive box office hit, grossing over ₹900 crore worldwide.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Upcoming Projects

Besides the Animal sequel, Ranbir Kapoor has an exciting lineup of films. He is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War, a 1960s-period drama co-starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal, slated for a June 2026 release. He will also star in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part One later this year, portraying Lord Ram.
